aMission Statement: "At La Quinta Holdings, we have an optimistic view about travel, which drives us every day to provide a refreshing, engaging experience for all of our valued guests. Dedicated to and guided by our core values, our team is passionate about making La Quinta your favorite choice."
La Quinta was first founded in 1968 as an Inn and has since then grown into 800+ properties. We want all our guests to "wake up on the bright side" and enjoy their stay with us. Our location is one of the first new prototypes of the "Del Sol" theme La Quinta that they are now implementing around the United States. This location is about 2 years old and was opened April 16, 2015.
As a front desk clerk we are the first face that our guest sees, so we want to welcome them and make their arrival as smooth as we can. We are supposed to be knowledgeable about the hotel and answer questions or help out guests without the presence of a manager. Besides checking guests in and out, we provide a helpful service in order to make their stay as comfortable as possible.
The qualifications for someone wanting to work as a front desk representative include:
A benefit of this internship is that, unlike most, you are paid hourly for your work. Another benefit is discounts on La Quinta stays for employees. At our location, school comes first and hours are flexible around your schedule. The only difference I was not used to in the hotel industry was the amount of workers at our hotel. There are only so many front desk representatives that can help cover a shift or may get sick and need your help, but in the food industry there are usually 10+ people that could possibly help you cover your shift if needed.
Some achievements acquired while working at La Quinta are a ton of new skills. I have the ability to use the computer system that is used throughout all La Quinta locations. Because I have never worked in the hotel industry before, this was a great first opportunity away from the food and restaurant side of customer service to get more practice in a professional setting with our guests. While interning here at La Quinta, I learned almost every job that is worked at our hotel including front desk clerk, housekeeping, laundry, and breakfast duty. By having the opportunity to work in each position, I can be better prepared and have more of an understanding on the individual jobs, and can also be a helping hand in each department if we are short staffed or having a more busy day than usual.
